With her careers as world-class forensic anthropologist, bestselling author and producer of the hit TV series Bones, Kathy Reichs is a trifecta of accomplishments. Recently her broad-spanning wings have spread to include the title “screenwriter” (for the season five Bones episode “The Witch in the Wardrobe”) and now—with the publication of Virals—“young adult author.” A fascinating blend of forensic science and fantasy sure to appeal to a new generation of Bones fans, Virals introduces Tory Brennan, niece of acclaimed forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan.
Fourteen-year-old Tory is the leader of a ragtag band of teenage "sci-philes" who live on a secluded island off the coast of South Carolina. When the group rescues a dog caged for medical testing on a nearby island, they are exposed to an experimental virus that changes their lives forever.
As the friends discover their heightened senses and animal-quick reflexes, they must combine their scientific curiosity with their newfound gifts to solve a cold-case murder that has suddenly become very hot—if they can stay alive long enough to catch the killer's scent.
Fortunately, they are now more than friends—they're a pack. They are Virals.

The characters are very likable and believable doing things tens would love to be able to do. Their lives are not perfect at home or school, but they meet the challenges with intelligence. The action is non-stop. I rally loved it and I am 67 years old!

It was not what I thought it would be. I really couldn't put it down. It was one of the best books I have read in a long time.
