Turning thirty and not getting a proposal from her long-time boyfriend gives schoolteacher Gwendolyn Reese two big reasons to accept her Aunt Bea’s birthday gift of a grand tour of Europe. Of course, it means traveling in the company of Bea and her lively Sudoku and Mahjongg Club cronies, not that buttoned-up Gwen minds as she diligently ticks off monuments on her must-see list. But in Capri, Gwen gives in to a sudden impulse to run carefree down a long winding staircase, and the unexpected freedom opens her eyes to other experiences she never before considered.
Marilyn Brant’s A Summer in Europe is a wonderful tale that captivates readers as Gwen, transformed by her surroundings, undergoes a change of heart about life…and love.

I enjoyed this book. It showed how taking chances in life can lead to a happier life.

I loved the traveling and details about places I have never been. It was wonderful to see the development of the main characters as the story went on. The characters were all interesting and amusing at times. This is not a fast paced novel, but there is much richness in the characters and description of places they went in Europe. One of the promos on the cover was that it was a "thinking woman's book", and I think that is true. I enjoyed it.

I absolutely loved this book. A story of finding out who you are and how to just let go and enjoy life. Everyone should be so lucky to have friends like the S&M bunch. What a hoot! Could have read on and on....

I loved this book. As I had been to many of the sites in Italy I felt like I was there all over again. The descriptive writing was compelling enough to make me want to use this book as a tour guide to visit all the places I haven't been. The characters in the story were fun and intriguing and the book was a good look at historical sites. I highly recommend this book. I was sorry to see it end.

This was the first book I read by Brant, I was a little concerned at first that I wouldn't be able to finish it since it does start out a little slow. However, the S & M Club gave me hope that the book would pick up. This book is all about opening yourself up to new ideas and adventures, and taking a leap toward happiness even though it scares you to death. I honestly didn't want the book to end.
