The Time Traveler's Wife

A most modern story of love and contemporary manners, The Time Traveler’s Wife has captured the hearts and imagination of reviewers and readers alike. Clare and Henry DeTamble are deeply in love, but as Clare says, "We are often insane with happiness. We are also very unhappy for reasons neither of us can do anything about.”

The problem? It seems Henry—a librarian by trade—suffers from Chrono-Displacement Disorder. In laymen’s terms, the man time-travels. Zip, he’s in Indiana c. 1973, minutes or months later, back home in the present (Clare’s present—in Chicago—that is.) He could be sipping soup and then he’s back off again.

Audrey Niffenegger’s writing transcends all, in this beautiful and cleverly constructed tale.

I bought the book from here months ago after I had bought and watched the movie. I loved the movie. I am finally getting around to reading the book. I love the book. I have had no trouble following it. It is extremely well written. I would recomend the book as I already have to few people.

Awesome Book

After reading the reviews of others, I would recommend renting the movie first and then reading the book. I can see where the book could be confusing for those who hadn't seen the movie. The book was well written and the love story between Clare and Henry was endless throughout time. I read the book while flying on an airplane and I couldn't put it down.

Time Travel & The Movie Revisited
March 30, 2010

The literary public has long had an affinity for the concept of time travel; going back to do things over, in effect repairing our regrets about how we lived our lives. Enter Claire and Henry who give time travel a completely new face. Time travel is not a choice but a curse for them; seldom giving anything but heartbreak and usually taking precious time away from them. Time travel is a genetic anomaly suffered by Henry and his offspring. This is a completely new take on an old theme. Outstanding work by Ms. Niffenegger. Even if you aren't a fan of romance, this is an unusual take on a tired theme, making it worth the time and money. Read it. You won't be sorry. If you saw the movie, try to take both interpretations on their own merits and don't make too many comparisons. The one will suffer because of the other. Eric Bana does a credible job with Henry and Rachel McAdams does her best for Claire, but they aren't the same characters you meet and come to root for in the novel, but they are good characters none the less. I would say see the movie and read the book but take them separately. Both are worth the effort.
