Lisa Gardner’s creepy new thriller is the reason Tess Gerritsen exhorts you to “lock the doors before you open this book.” Unfortunately, killers, particularly of the crawling variety, always manage to get inside…
Hookers, runaways, it doesn’t matter—he's an equal opportunity killer. That’s what Delilah Rose, a teenage prostitute, tells FBI Special Agent Kimberly Quincy, the only person she’s willing to talk to about “the man in the red baseball cap.” Maybe it’s because they’re both a few months pregnant, thinks Kimberly, but whatever the reason, Delilah’s allegation about his method of terror is what disturbs her most: spiders. According to the girl, he has a fascination with deadly arachnids, tarantulas in particular, and Kimberly can only imagine the horror for his victims. If there are any, that is…
The daughter of a no-nonsense FBI hero, Kimberly is likewise a tough sell, especially since Delilah can’t point to any bodies to back up her sordid tale. But as Kimberly will soon find out, a keeper of spiders becomes an expert on spinning webs—and she’s about to step into one that’s terrifyingly real…and deadly. Is it Kimberly’s turn to say goodbye?

I have read many of Lisa Gardner's book and found this one as intriguing as her others. Loved the suspense and just when I thought I had it figured out, the plot thickened and I was wrong. Loved it. Can't wait for more of her books in the future.

Although Ms. Gardner writes well, this story was a struggle to get through...and I read it completely as it was our book club's selection for the month. It was an unpleasant story, confusing in characterization, and disgusting in the depravity of the criminal mind. It also involved the destruction of children's lives...and I found it totally without anything to recommend it.

Lisa Gardner is one of my favorite authors, if not my favorite. This book got me by the third page and I could hardly put it down. Finally had to stay up late to finish it. I thought I knew "who did what" but once again, Lisa kept me in suspense until the very end. If you haven't read Lisa's books, you are missing out on a wonderful author. This book is one I will read again!

I have enjoyed many of Lisa Gardner's books, but this one had the most intricately woven plot lines. The ending was pretty surprising and didn't totally wrap things up, leaving room for a follow-up novel. The character development was also very good. I'm looking forward to her next work.
