It’s a bleak crime scene that greets psychologist Alex Delaware on the grounds of an L.A. reserve: the bodies of four women, whose hands have been severed. Three of the victims were prostitutes known to specialize in rough sex. But the last murdered was a piano teacher who counted the young son of wealthy businessman, Simon Vander, among her talented pupils. It occurs to Alex and Det. Milo Sturgis that Vander’s older daughter, Simone, may be just a bit too eager to point a finger at the family’s caretaker, who was once imprisoned for murder. And, as the list of suspects grows, it will occur to you that, as always, Kellerman’s brilliantly plotted thrillers careen through breathtaking twists and turns before revealing “whodunit.”
