And When She Was Good

Heloise Lewis has a pleasant, if modest, suburban home, a son in middle school, and an occupation that would invite scandal if the neighbors only knew. Fortunately, in her community, people tend to keep to themselves; in addition, Heloise has friends in high places. But after a shocking murder, everything changes, and Heloise’s precarious sense of security suddenly collapses.

Years ago, Heloise helped put a murderer behind bars for life, but her tangled business relationship persists. When Heloise, for the sake of her son, tries to put her checkered past behind her, she puts herself in greater danger still.

Laura Lippman paints a nuanced portrait of a complex, intriguing character in this compelling crime novel.

Not horrible, but not that good
September 13, 2012

I am a fan of this author, but if you're hoping within the pages of this tome you will find her style and ability to create characters you care about or an interesting story of note - sadly, I was not able to find either.

Not her best
September 08, 2012

i liked her other books much better than this one. she jumps from present to past so it's hard to keep the story straight. I didn't like the way it was written.
